Students Peform at Annual Christmas Concert
On Tuesday, December 13, under the guidance of band director Mr. Glenn Pawlak, the St. Michael School Band held its annual Christmas Concert. The senior and beginner bands performed for their fellow students that day at noon and then again in the evening for family members and friends.
To start the evening, Mr. Pawlak had everyone in the audience stand while the senior band played their rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. The beginner band has been practicing for this concert since August. But most importantly, they have been learning basic music skills, and getting comfortable with their instrument. The students in the beginner band did a fine job displaying their new found musical talents for the audience. The senior band this year has students from 5th through 8th grade and was impressive with their classic arrangements as well as Christmas favorites to bring the evening to an exciting close.
SMS Band students meet once a week for group lessons during the school day. Beginner Band also meets before school at 7:00 a.m. while the senior band meets after school. The students have been preparing and rehearsing for this concert for many weeks and their hard work clearly was heard!
Students perform at Christmastime and in the spring. Additional performances include Marist High School Grade School Night and an optional solo contest at the regional level in March.
