Web-based Programs for Student Development

My Reading Coach...

Through a federal grant, St. Michael purchased a program called My Reading Coach. This program focuses on the three critical components of reading: phonics, fluency and comprehension. My Reading Coach assesses each student through a placement test that identifies the students low areas and places the student in only the lessons that are needed. My Reading Coach also includes worksheets, oral reading, grammar, writing and tests at different levels. This is a wonderful program that teaches reading for comprehension, reading with inflection, fluency, visualizing what is read and grammar.  For more information, visit teacher's web page:

Fluent Reading Trainer...

The second new program is called Fluent Reading Trainer or FLRT. The program is designed to improve reading comprehension and fluency by improving eye tracking, visual recognition of sight and high frequency words, visual tracking of words in written context and comprehension of the passages read through short tests. With consistent use, FLRT trains the readers eyes to move from left to right efficiently and to sweep in one movement. FLRT makes school become easier for all types of readers because reading becomes easier!  For more information, please visit the teacher's web page: Mrs. Sharon Grasso

Apangea Math...

Through a federal grant, St. Michael is fortunate to begin a web-based math program. Apangea is aligned to Illinois State and Common Core standards to prepare students to be successful in math as they work on problem solving and learning mastery. The classes meet once a week and provide individualized instruction by grade level. As students work independently, they obtain a deep understanding of each math concept with fun and engaging work. Mrs. Grasso and Mrs. Siberz manage and coordinate the Apangea math program. For more information, please visit the teacher's web page:  Mrs. Sharon Grasso and Mrs. Kathleen Siberz.
