Welcome to Mrs. Novotny's Class

Week of January 30th

  • Students will be tested on  A Way to Help Planet Earth
  • Continue to initial the January Reading Calendar.
  • A Reading Newsletter is sent home on Mondays.  This contains the vocabulary, spelling words, and comprehensions skills of the week. 
  • Study the definitions of the vocabulary words and know how to use them in a sentence.
  • Reread the main story each week and ask your child questions about the text.
  • On Wednesday, students will be assessed on the story and vocabulary words.  
  • Please check your child's Home Folder every night.
  • Sign and return Friday folders on Monday. Take the time to carefully look at each assignment and learn from mistakes.
  • Thank you for your quick signatures and corrections on papers in need of improvement.

Science

  • Students will attend class on Tuesday and Thursday.
  • Introduce Energy in Motion: Unit F
  • Test will be on February 14th.   
  • Begin reading on page 434.
  • Study Guides and books will go home one week before the test.

Math

  • Homework will be given daily
    Practice flashcards on a weekly basis
  • Add Two-digit Numbers with Regrouping
  • Write Addition & Subtraction Fact Families
  • Telling time to the Half Hour
  • Counting dimes and pennies
  • Using the Addition Algoritm

 

Daily Class Assignments

Please read comments and abbreviations for concerns on daily work below.  Look for these on papers returned in Friday folders.  Grades will not be earned on every assignment, but is still used as informal assessment. In response to all assessments, based on individual needs, students may be retaught on a missed skill or provided with extra practice.
