                                            WORLD LANGUAGES

Bienvenidos (Welcome) to the 2011-2012 School Year! I look forward to an exciting year filled with learning and fun!

I currently have an office in the little hallway near the courtyard.  Spanish and French will take place in the students' classrooms...Señora/Madame Mata will travel around the building to bring World Languages to our younger learners.

On Sunday, January 29, we invite you to our Sunday 9:00 Catholic Schools Week Mass.  Several St. Michael  students will be involved in various ministries.  Afterwards, come to the World Languages table in the gym.  Samples of French and Spanish work will be on display around the school...we have some adorable little pictures of our little"Parisians!"

The Pre-School and Kindergarten children will study Français exclusively.  From this point, Spanish will begin in Grade One.  Students in Pre-School will have French every other week; students in Kindergarten will have class every week.  Our Spanish students in Gr. 1-4 have Spanish once a week and in Gr. 5-6 ~ I meet with them two times a week. After this, they transition into Jr. High Spanish with foreign language class daily.

"Children in effective second language programs show overall gains on standardized tests of basic skills and derive additional cognitive, social and affective benefits." National Network for Early Language Learning

Our World Language learners in Grades 1-6 are off to a great start and have remembered their songs, greetings, and basic vocab from previous years. ¡Salud! They continue to build on their conversation skills.

French day is Tuesday. PK classes will began during the week of Sept. 19...please check the child's schedule for French day, as it varies - remember, it is every other week.

Please feel free to contact me by phone at 708-349-0068Ext. 645 or by e-mail:  lmata@saintmike.org
