Welcome to Jr. High Social Studies!!
7th Grade Curriculum:
Our focus of study this year spans from challenges of the early Colonial era (1600's) to problems encountered by a very divided nation at the onset of the Civil War. My goal is for students to be able to compare & contrast how specific historical events not only led to a particular outcome, but that current 'history' can be viewed through this social lens or prism in order to better understand the similarities of events.
Also, the inclusion of geography facts using the student atlas booklet is an important part of our curriculum; D.O.G. or "Daily Oral Geography" questions are posed at the beginning of class on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. After 20-25 questions, students will be tested on these geography facts. We focus on a specific continent for a whole series of questions.
8th Grade Curriculum:
Our focus of study this year will continue on from the time of the Underground Railroad through the Civil War and into the 2oth century. We will be learning about many fascinating business "icons" of the late 1800's & early 1900's who, in many ways, influenced the political direction of our country.
