We all have different styles of learning.  St. Michael School is fortunate to have various supports to help these different types of learners.  One of these is the ELS (Essential Learning Systems) program.  This computer based program, published by the Creative Institute, provides the folllowing for each student enrolled in the ELS program:

  • Flexibility
  • Individualized lessons
  • A multi-sensory therapeutic approach

The ELS program helps students with reading and language.  Each lesson helps students to:

  • Pronounce words correctly
  • Decode vowels and consonants
  • Spell words correctly
  • Define and use a word or term in a sentence

The ELS program is also successful in helping students improve attention and concentration skills.  The program's focus is on:

  • Mastery of all skills listed above
  • Positive reinforcement
  • Motivation

The documented results of the ELS program demonstrate:

  • Improvement in grade-level reading
  • Increase in test scores
  • Improved self-esteem
