News for the week of February 6th

What a great Catholic Schools week it was!  The best thing was our performance of The Three Piggy Opera.  I was so proud of the children.  This week we will return to our normal routine.

  • In Religion we will learn that Jesus sends the Holy Spirit.  We will hear the story of Pentecost.  We will read the Bible story of the Good Samaritan.
  • In Reading the first graders will begin the first unit in their fourth Treasures book.  The main selection is entitled "Pelican Was Hungry."  We will be concentrating on main ideas and details along with the use of -er and -est.
  • Our next Spelling test will be on Friday, February 10th.  Keep up the good work!
  • In Grammar we will learn the correct use of the verbs WAS and WERE.
  • In Phonics we will be working on long vowel Oo.
  • In Math class the children will add two-digit numbers without regrouping, identify how many more on a graph, identify and make congruent shapes, and group by tens.
  • Since February is dental health month, the Writing classes are going to do some creative writing about the Tooth Fairy. I will read some stories and we'll be inspired! The children will make some tooth fairies too.

I see on the school calendar that Friday is a Track-a-thon pizza day, so send a drink.  We will attend 8AM mass on Monday.  Room 6 will do some Readers' Theater this week too!

Have a nice "winter" week.

(We could be having this!)

I have added a couple of new links to my educational websites.  You will find them under Quick Links.   One that is particularly interesting is SPELLINGCITY.COM.  You can actually enter all of our spelling words from each week's lesson and then your child can learn, practice, or play games with them. What will they think of next?
