Waters, Mrs. Mary (3-4)
Week of February 6, 2012
- We will attend the 8:00am Mass on Monday, Feb. 6th. Please join us if you can.
- HOMEWORK: Please check your child's assignment notebook every night. This will help your child (and you) stay on top on every day homework as well as long term assignments.
February Birthdays
Marcos - Feb. 17AJ - Feb. 25
Religion
This week we will focus on Mary. The students will learn that Mary is not only the Mother of God but the Mother of the Church. After reading and discussing this chapter the students will be able to explain how Mary is a model of faith and holiness for all Christians.
- Our year-long theme for the entire school this year is PEACE. We will discuss how our actions can help create a peaceful atmosphere here at school, at home, and within us.
Third Grade Reading
- The students will finish the nonfiction selection Saving the Sand Dunes, focusing on the skill of identifying cause and effect. There will not be a formal test on this selection. The students will also have the opportunity to read their book reports and present their dioramas to the class. The students should return their reading books to school by Wednesday, Feb. 8th. A new reader will come home at the end of the week.
When a story is assigned, your child will be asked to read the story orally to a parent or guardian at home. Please be sure to sit with your child, correct any mistakes, and ask him/her questions about what has been read. The more a child reads orally the more fluent he/she becomes and the better he/she comprehends the plot. This will aid in your child's self confidence which leads to him/her wanting to read "just for fun"!

Fourth Grade Reading
- The students' test on Mystic Horse is Monday, Feb. 6th. The students will then spend two days working on reading skills. They will practice making predictions and reviewing how to summarize a selection. The students will also have the opportunity to read their biogrpahy book reports to the class. They will begin the fantasy story Dear Mrs. LaRue on Thursday.
- Although children in fourth grade are becoming more independent readers, I ask that you have your child read the week's story orally to you. The more a child reads orally the more fluent he/she becomes and the better he/she comprehends the plot.
