WELCOME TO ROOM 5

Religion - Discuss Sunday's Gospel;  Describe how Jesus wants us to love and help our neighbors; Define/identify the words "Catholic" and "Christian"; Prayerfully reflect on God's presence, his invitation, and our response; Celebrate the Eucharist as a class

Reading - Understand the strategies "Generate Questions", "Analyze character and setting", "Analyze text feature", and "Numerical lists";  Read selections "When I Am Old With You", "What I Like About Spring", "Gram and Me", and "Celebrate Chinese New Year"

Math - Addition facts - doubles plus 1 facts; Written Assessment 15; Guessing and checking to solve a problem; Acting it out to solve a problem; Adding two-digit numbers without regrouping

Spelling - Spelling words this week - strike, splash, scrub, string, split, scrap, like, ride, says, were.  SPELLING TEST - FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3RD.  Two sentences of dictation will be given as well (any previous spelling words/high frequency words may be used in dictation for the test). 

Social Studies - Martin Luther King, Jr.

The students will continue to see Mrs. Bartlett and Mrs. Quinn on Tuesday and Thursday for Science and Writing.

  • PE is TUESDAY:  All first graders should wear gym uniforms on Tuesdays.  The students may wear the PE shorts in August, September, and May. 
  • SNACKS:  PLEASE remember to send your child with a snack each day.  The snack should be in a small bag (not in the lunch box).
  • BOOK REPORTS are due EVERY Friday.
  • THREE PIGGY OPERA is Thursday, February 2nd at 9:00 am.
