Weslow, Mrs. Becky (3-4)
EXPECTATIONS FOR MRS. BECKY WESLOW - ROOM 9
Social Studies - 4th Grade
This year in Social Studies the students will be using the series, Regions, by Scott Foresman. The text discusses all the different regions of the United States (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, West). The students will learn what events and people have shaped these regions. We will also discuss the following attributes of each region during different times in history: economics, science/technology, geography, culture, citizenship, and government.
Students will be expected to take notes in class in their spiral notebooks. The organization of their spirals is crucial. We will also work from a workbook that goes along with the series. Most homework assignments will receive a grade. When students are asked to study for a test, a study guide will be distributed. Students should also study their notes and re-read their text in preparation for an exam.
Spelling/Writing - 4th Grade
The students will be given a Spelling test every Friday, unless otherwise noted. The students will be working from the Spelling series that correlates with our Reading series, Treasures. Students will be expected to use words in a sentence on each test.
Creative writing will also be instructed several days a week. Poetry, narratives, essays, etc. are just a few of the types of writing that will be covered.
Phonics/Spelling - 3rd Grade
The students will be working from the Phonics series by Modern Curriculum Press,
Phonics, Level C. The students will do most Phonics work in class. Occasionally, homework will be sent home. Any take-home assignments, or in-school quizzes will receive a grade.
The students will use the Spelling series that correlates with our Reading series, Treasures. Spelling tests will be given every Friday unless otherwise noted.
