Junior Great Books is a really fun extracurricular book club for students who love to read. The program meets approximately twice a month starting in November and runs through April. We meet during the lunch/recess period in the classrooms. Students get to read interesting stories, think about what it means, and then discuss it with other students their own age.

The Junior Great Books® program is a research-based, K-12 reading program that provides a superb framework for teaching reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing, all in the context of students sharing their ideas about great literature.

Junior Great Books is proven to help students develop essential literacy skills-reading carefully, thinking critically, listening intently, and speaking and writing persuasively. By participating in Shared InquiryTM discussions, Great Books students learn to read for meaning and to support their own interpretation of the text.

But most importantly, this program is for everyone! Because our primary goal is to provide additional reading opportunities for students in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, this program is for readers of all ability levels.
