The St. Michael Video Club was started twenty years ago when Mr. Ken Jackson, who works for NBC, approached the principal and Mrs. Barbara Ryan about starting a live broadcast of school events once a week.

Cameraman and St. Michael parent Jeff Wierus joined Jackson in leading the Jeff Wierus and Ken Jacksonclub and has been on board for eleven years. With the help of Weirus and Jackson, the students shoot, edit, write and perform their weekly shows, complete with special effects and interviews, in addition to a year-long project of producing a graduation video that is presented to the school at the end of the year.

"We have been improving each year with new equipment and innovative styles. Many of the 8th graders who have participated in the club have gone on to work in video clubs in high school and some are asked to join some TV networks."

Club members are selected from the 8th grade class. They meet every Tuesday night with Mr. Jackson and Mr. Wierus, from 7:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m.  They edit interviews they have taped,  edit any filming of weekly events, practice and fine tune their weekly broadcast, and continue their work on their ongoing major project, the graduation video.  By the end of the year, they present an Eighth Grade Memory Video that is viewed by the entire student body.

We are so grateful to both Mr. Jackson (who has instructed the club for twenty years, even after his own children graduated) and to Mr. Wierus for their guidance and dedication.   The instruction they provide is priceless!
