Mrs. King's Homeroom 14
- Welcome to Room 14. We have gotten off to a great start. It is like we never left!! This is the place were information for Room 14 will appear; dates, evebts, etc. The first one is our Open House which Tuesday, August 31st from 7:00 to 8:30. See you there.
- Thank you to all the parents that came to our Open House. It was nice seeing you all. Some dates to remember: Prep Class starts September 9th from 2:00 to 3:00; please make sure your child is picked up by 3:00. Track A Thon Pep Rally is Friday, September 10th.
Religion
- Monday, August 30th - Introduced our new religion book. Discussed the greatest gift we ever received. Also discussed God's gift of creation. What could be a better gift? No homework.
- Tuesday, August 31st - Read the article entitled "Remember the Goodness of God."
- Wednesday, Sptember 1st - Discussed the story of Creation and what wonderful gifts God gave us through this act. Assignment: Read the next article called "Where Did That Faith Come From?"
- Thursday, Spetember 2nd - Worked on the "What?" activity at the end of the chapter.Assignment: Review both articles in preparation for the assessment on Friday.
- Friday, September 3rd. - Student interviews cover the two articles from chapter 1. No Homework.
English/Literature 8th Grade:
- Monday, August 30th - Reviewed SQ3R study technique. The assignment: Using the story "The Treasure of Lemon Brown" the students must come up with 3 question for the title, 3 questions for the introduction (first and a half paragraghs of the story), 2 question for EACH of the three pictures; p. 18, 23, and 24/25.
- Tuesday, August 31st - Discussed the questions that the students came up with for homework. Talkde about treasures and shared ideas about what a treasure may mean differntly to two people. Assignment: Come up with five different treasures, ask a parent or older sibling for their five treasures, compare the two lists; are they similiar or different and explain. Also; Take the seven "words to know" write the word, the definition and then a simple sentence using the vocabulary word as the given part of speech. Highlight the vocabulary word.
- Wednesday, September 1st - Listened to the story "The Treasure of Lemon Brown." Assignment: character sketch of Lemon Brown. The chart is in the literature book, p. 27. First column physically describe Lemon Brown, second column give examples of Lemon Brown's actions, dialogue, speech, third column give examples of Greg's thought, dialogue, actions to or about Lemon Brown. Test will be Friday.
- Thursday, September 2nd. - Reviewed homework assignment; character sketch of Lemon Brown. Worked on study guide together in preparation for the test which will be on Friday.
- Friday, September 3rd. - Test on "The Treasure of Lemon Brown."
English/Literature 7th Grade
- Monday, August 30th - Introduced SQ3R study technique. The assignment: Using the story "A Crush" the students must come up with 2 question for the title, 2 questions for the introduction (first paragragh of the story), 2 question for EACH of the two pictures; p. 19 and 21. Together the class will discuss their questions and continue with the story.
- Tuesday, August 31st. - Discussed the questions that the students came up with the story "A Crush."
Discussed how people can be different mentally and physically and how we should respect them even though they are not "normal." The students worked on the five vocabulary words that accompany this story. - Wednesday, September 1st. - Listened to the story "A Crush." Discussed static and dynamic characters. In the first column list the characters that are dynamic (change a great deal from the beginning of the story), second column list how they changed, third column list actions or events that caused them to change. Test will be Friday.
- Thursday, September 2nd - Reviewed static and dynamic characters. Completedthe study guide for the story "A Crush." together in class. This is for preparation for the test which will be on Friday.
- Friday, September 3rd. - Test on "A Crush." No Homework.
