6th Grade and the Days of Knights
The St. Michael 6th grade students, who recently studied the medieval times, were connected with the Philadelphia Art Museum through the interactive long distance learning lab. Aptly named, "Days of Knights," the 60 minute program walks students through the Museum's extensive collection of armor. The curator presented the purpose and evolution of armor, from chainmail to full suits of armor (which could weigh as much as 90 lbs.), as well as how the armor was made. The students, who asked many insightful questions, also learned that horses, as well as their knights, squires or royal subjects wore the armor. They also discussed how the life of a knight related to religion and government in Medieval Europe.
